Afghan Girl’s School Fundraiser

On Saturday, November 12th, Nagma Gandhi will once again host the Afghan Girl’s School fundraiser. The event celebrates the education of 600 little Afghan school girls and will present a video of the school which is located outside of Peshawar, Pakistan. During the event, you will enjoy a delicious Indo Pakistani meal as well as the opportunity to shop for lovely items from Afghanistan, India, and Pakistan.

Suggested donation is $50, but a gift of $90 will educate one girl for an entire year and $130 will pay a teacher for a month.

From the South, take the 110 Freeway, exit on Temple St.

The Parking structure can be entered from Los Angeles Street heading south between First and Temple.

You must Check-In at the kiosk. You will be directed to drive underground to the P2 level. Take the

elevator to the 3 rd  Floor. Cross the Bridge and then take the Express Elevators to the 10th Floor.

Islam and the Modern World

Holy Family Church in South Pasadena is sponsoring “Islam and the Modern World” with Jihad Turk on Wednesday, May 11th from 7-8:30 pm.

Jihad Turk has been instrumental in the establishment of Baan Claremont, a graduate school designed to educate Muslim scholars and religious leaders. He previously served as the Director of Religious Affairs at the Islamic Center of Southern California, the oldest and largest mosque in the Los Angeles area.

INTERNATIONAL YOUTH MEDIA SUMMIT: A CELEBRATION OF YOUTH VOICES.

The International Youth Media Summit is an annual event that brings together teen filmmakers and teen diplomats from all over the world to explore ways of using media to inspire and empower their generation to take action on urgent social issues.A Celebration of Youth Voices honors their work in a screening of the Summit films and an evening of live entertainment across cultures. The celebration includes performances by the Ikeda Youth Ensemble Taiko Drummers, The Lark Musical Society Children’s Choir and Children’s Violin Ensemble performing traditional Armenian music, the Trevor Anderies Jazz Quartet, and a SPECIAL SURPRISE GUEST!

Partnering with Oxnard and Camarillo in cleaning riverbeds and with Food Share to provide healthy food for families in our community.

What:

  • Riverbed cleaning &neighborhood gleaning (ward specific assignments forthcoming)

Where:

  • Oxnard   – meet at Plaza Park (corner of 5th  street & C street)
  • Camarillo – meet at Constitution Park (corner of Carmen Dr. & Paseo Camarillo)

What to Bring:

  • Sunscreen, hats, water, closed-toe shoes, & friends
  • If cleaning riverbed: garden tools (rake, shovel, gloves)
  • If Picking Fruit: long-sleeve shirts, gloves, fruit-picker or clippers, bag/buckets to carry fruit, & step stool
